Join a Stripey Spanish Ping Pong Night
Ever wondered what a student at Stripey Spanish gets up to? Well for once, you can join us for an evening at our Level 2 Ping Pong Spanish class and learn some Spanish sports phrases while you are at it.
5pm - Arrive at Bounce
It’s 5pm, you’ve just finished work and probably feeling a little tired. That’s fine, as the energy in Bounce will wake you up straight away and get you in the zone to learn Spanish! If you’ve not been to Bounce before then you are in for a treat. Bounce is a ping pong venue located just off the Old Street roundabout. This place is one of the most colourful, vibrant and fun places in London. You’re greeted by art work, disco lights and the sound of laughter filling the room. Just head for the mass of orange T-shirts and you will find our teachers.
5:15pm - Pizza
Bounce is no ordinary sports venue. It does the most amazing pizza. And there’s plenty of it to go around. We start off the evening by having a conversation in Spanish and enjoying the food. This will help you get the Spanish juices flowing and greet your fellow team mates.
Useful Spanish pre-game conversation
¿Te gusta el deporte? - Do you like sports?
¿Juegas mucho al ping pong? - Do you play much ping pomg
¿Eres competitivo/a? - Are you competitive?
5:30pm - Team names and cheerleading
Once you’ve greeted your team, its time to get into your team sweatbands and think of your team name. Dont be afraid to be creative, this is the opportunity to show the other teams how good your Spanish lingo is! Team names at the ready, you now have the chance to show off your dancing skills with your team cheerleading performance. Twerking, shuffling or whatever moves you have we love to see them. Show the other teams what a winning team looks like and don’t be afraid to embarrass yourself!
Useful Spanish cheerleading
¡Vamos a ganar! - We’re going to win!
¡No te rindas! - Don’t give up!
¡Sigue soñando! - Keep dreaming!
5:45pm: Rallies
Think you’re incredible at ping pong and have the technique? Well, that makes one of us! This time is to help you warm up and hope that the talent comes back to you. We try and get to 20 but we start getting quicker and quicker. This also gives you the perfect opportunity to work out who the competition is and plan your strategy.
6:00pm: Our Stripey Spanish mini league
Now that you’re warmed up we start our mini league. This is when the competition really heats up. We will learn how to talk about the game in Spanish and most importantly, trash talk your opponents. Our fantastic instructor Jandro will keep track of the score and make sure there’s no cheating and ultimately, crown the winner!
Useful Spanish spectator chat
¿Quién va ganando? - Who’s winning?
Barry tiene buena técnica - Barry’s got a good teqnique
¡Uyyy, casi!- Ah close one!
7:00pm: Having a drink and a chat with your friends (or now enemies!)
We hope after that you’re all still talking! If you are its time to grab a much needed drink from the bar. Its really nice to end the night talking to your course mates.
We hope you’ve enjoyed your sneak peak into the life of a Stripey Spanish student. Click here to find out more about about our social Spanish courses or join our next taster class.
